Why Zebras?

Zebras are a symbol of individuality, safe community and rebellion. No two zebras have the same stripes and with such a flashy coat you wouldn’t think they would be much good at camouflage. In order to remain safe from predators, zebras camouflage only works when they are in a herd. Together their wild patterns confuse predators and sometimes even look like a mirage!

Zebras are also one of the only equine animals that human society have not successfully tamed.

The Breaking Shame Project seeks to rebel against harmful social scripts to celebrate individuality and find safety in community.

What is the logo zebra doing with his lips?

Laughing! At least that is what is often said of the gesture that is actually called the flehmen response. The flehmen response is used to investigate new and interesting taste and smell stimuli and to communicate through pheromones. Not only does the flehmen response play a big role in mating rituals, it is a way in which zebras and other animals engage with their senses and environment! Talk about present and embodied!
